Marriage is a legal partnership, therefore there are forms and documents that need to be signed.
Prior to getting married all couples are required to complete a Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM) The NOIM must be lodged with the celebrant no less than one month and one day, or up to 18 months before the wedding.
After the ceremony I send the required documentation to the Registrar of Births Death and Marriages (by registered mail for added security). At the last meeting I have with couples prior to their ceremony another form is completed. This form is a legal statement by the bride and bridegroom verifying that there is no reason why they should not be lawfully married.
On the day of the ceremony there are three certificates to be signed. Couples need to nominate two witnesses who are over the age of 18 to sign their marriage documents.
